11th Conference of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol:
The 11th Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP 11) took place in Cali, Colombia, from October 21 to November 2, 2024. 155 out of 173 Parties participated. COP MOP 11 took place in parallel to the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 16) and the Conference of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol (COP-MOP 5). The overall motto was “Peace with Nature”. Due to a lack of quorum, COP 16 could not be concluded and was postponed on the morning of November 2, 2024.

Past Conferences of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol:
As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the necessary travel and assembly restrictions the last Conference of the Parties (COP-MOP 10) could not be held as planned in October 2020 in Kunming, China. Part I of the conference took place from 11 to 15 October 2021 as a hybrid meeting, part II was held as a physical meeting from 07 to 19 December 2022 in Montreal, Canada. Four years before, in November 2018, COP-MOP 9 took place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. At an exhibition stand at CEPA Fair 2018 Germany informed on its practices and experiences regarding public awareness and participation in terms of the Cartagena Protocol; the presented poster can be seen here.
